The young Israeli architect Nir Sivan, based in Rome, is proud of his first project in Brazil. Commissioned by Luiz Paulo Marcolini, owner of CasaShopping, he is completing the installation of his Carioca Wave project in Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro, which is set to be inaugurated along with the shopping center’s new expansion in October/November of this year.

It’s a true architectural sculpture, 20 meters high, in the shape of a wave, built with 110 tons of Czech steel and clad with 45 tons of triangular panels (all different) of Chinese and Brazilian glass—a project managed by German and Austrian teams, and personally supervised by Sivan himself.

The Wave, inspired by the sea and even by the shape of the city’s mountains, forms a canopy over part of the mall’s underground stores, drawing attention to them. Around the Wave, there will be a large reflecting pool (the entire project spans 1,500 m²), bordered by Portuguese stone paving, designed by Nir—a neo-Carioca well-adapted to the city.
