Horizontal White: A Home Transformed into a Unique Design Symbol

The Horizontal White project was inspired by the expansive panoramic views of this private residential area. The predominantly white-finished façade offers maximum transparency, allowing the stunning surrounding environment to permeate the interior, while still creating a secure enclosure.

The concept of the double-layer façade includes an external glass surface made primarily of transparent panels, and an independent inner layer composed of mullions and transoms. Both layers, shaped with non-linear rectangular forms, reflect a design language inspired by the De Stijl artistic movement.

The inner layer also functions as a shelving system, able to hold, for example, colored glass vases that enhance the atmosphere of the space.

One of the project’s standout features is the addition of “aquariums”—colored glass boxes that protrude from the outer façade. These elements add visual dynamism, help maintain privacy, and contribute to a more atmospheric interior lighting.

For this project, architect Nir Sivan worked closely with small-scale steel artisans, making it possible to create a unique yet simple design on a limited budget.

The transformed space is now used as a psychology and leisure studio, furnished with bookshelves designed as an extension of the façade and mounted on the internal side wall of the house.
