Costruzioni.net – “Giovane studio di architettura italiano disegna il primo progetto di forma libera nella storia dell’America Latina” (29 November 2014)
For the extension of “Casa Shopping”, Latin America’s largest design shopping centre in Rio de Janeiro, architect Nir Sivan’s studio designed and built the mall’s central outdoor sculpture. Onda Carioca is a 1,500 sqm architectural sculpture whose design was inspired by the surrounding context, conceived first as an artistic and emotional form before being developed architecturally. The self-supporting, column-free freeform shell combines over 110 tonnes of Czech carbon steel with 45 tonnes of Japanese glass across 503 unique triangular panels — technology never used before in Latin America, making it the region’s first freeform architectural project.
