BEYOND THE GAZE

An Architectural Experiment in Space, Perception and Freedom

BEYOND THE GAZE

Project

Imagine a world in which we could step beyond the limits of our own vision—not simply to see, but to observe the very act of seeing.

A world in which human existence is no longer confined to the invisible structures of habit, instinct and conditioned behaviour. We believe ourselves to be free, perhaps more so than other living beings, yet much of our existence unfolds through automatic responses rather than conscious reflection. We inhabit an invisible capsule: a space that appears transparent, yet continues to define the boundaries of our perception.

Beyond the Gaze explores the possibility of transcending this enclosure.

Within an imagined parallel reality, sculptural elements are liberated from gravity and conventional spatial constraints. Forms unfold freely across multiple dimensions, no longer governed by a singular orientation, a fixed hierarchy or a predetermined relationship to one another.

Time ceases to be a linear sequence. Life is no longer measured by its duration, but by its volume—the richness, depth and multiplicity of experiences that can coexist within it.

In this speculative space, architecture becomes an instrument for questioning established relationships between matter, geometry, perception and existence. New spatial configurations emerge, inviting the exploration of alternative geometries and mathematical relationships between forms.

The experiment draws inspiration from the organic geometry of the Iris flower and the structural strength of double-curved surfaces in engineering. Each sculptural element originates from an intuitive, hands-on exploration of simple wire mesh, shaped individually before being brought into dialogue with the others.

Together, these elements form a suspended composition, enclosed within a seemingly transparent volume: a miniature parallel universe in which freedom exists within confinement, and the boundaries between inside and outside, observation and experience, structure and movement become uncertain.

The enclosing box is both a physical boundary and a metaphor for human perception. Its transparency suggests openness, while its limits reveal how easily freedom can become an illusion.

Ultimately, Beyond the Gaze is not an attempt to represent another world, but an architectural experiment in imagining the conditions under which another world—and another way of experiencing existence—might become possible.
