Tuscany Farm House — Mixed-Use Retreat & Headquarters, Val d’Orcia

Set within a 160,000 sqm estate in the UNESCO-listed Val d’Orcia, this mixed-use project combines a multinational’s headquarters and training center with the owner’s private residence. Five buildings—anchored by restored 19th-century structures—are carefully renewed: historically valuable portions are conserved, while irreparable parts are rebuilt with fidelity to local craft.

Materiality is wholly regional. Facades are hand-worked from large blocks of Tuscan stone, their surfaces subtly sculpted to catch light and shadow. Roofs use regional timber, shaped and finished by hand covered with antique tiles. Interior and exterior pavements are formed from local earth—kiln-baked and pressed into generous tiles—creating a continuous, tactile ground or with hand finished parquet. Pathways in dry-laid stone stitch the ensemble into its agricultural setting.

The landscape is central: two natural lakes, two free-form pools embedded in greenery, and orchards, vineyards, and kitchen gardens echo the area’s productive heritage. Building massing, courtyards, and loggias frame long views over rolling fields while modulating sun and breeze for comfort. The result is a contemporary working and living campus rooted in place—where local materials, craft, and terrain shape both identity and experience.
